History of the Park
East Lake Park was created in 1904 and became a public park. The East Lake golf course opened at that time, as well. In 1908, tennis courts were built and over 100 years later, they still serve as an active court for players of all ages to enjoy.
The park was mostly forested in the beginning, but today it is home to various species of trees and flowers. A couple of years ago, they added an amphitheater for people who enjoy live performances. In 2009, a stage went up so that theatrical productions could be performed right there at East Lake Park. The next time you are looking for something to do, head to the park and check out what's going on.
The east side of the lake is perfect for fishing. In fact, there are several spots that offer great views of the water. You can also find a walking path around the perimeter of the lake if you're looking for a more leisurely stroll. The park is open every day of the week, so you can visit on your own or head out with friends and family.
East Lake Park used to be home to a famous hotel known as The Eastlake Resort Hotel (later renamed The Royal Palm). It was built in 1886 but sadly burned down nearly 50 years later. Today, the only remnant of The Eastlake Resort Hotel is a large oak tree that still stands near the entrance of the park.
No matter what your interests are, you can find something to do at East Lake Park. Whether you're looking for a place to have some fun or just need a quiet spot to relax, this park has it all. There are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy together.
